Liothyronine (T3)


Lyotyronin sodium is a synthetic thyroid hormone. It is an A-isomer of natural triiodothyronine (T3). Thyroid hormones accelerate metabolism, and therefore they are used for medical purposes to combat thyroid insufficiency, obesity, metabolic disorders, and fatigue. Also, triiodothyronine is used when the patient’s thyroid gland does not release the desired level of thyroid hormones. Hypothyroidism is detected by analyzing the hormones (T3, T4 and TSH) and has signs in the form of drowsiness, weight gain, hair loss, and changes in the texture of the skin. T3 is more active in the human body and it is stronger than drugs levothyroxine (T4).

Bodybuilders resort to this drug in cases where it is necessary to burn excess fat. Most often it is used in precompetitive training, because when you receive it you can not monitor the amount of calories consumed. It is often used together with sympathomimetics and growth hormone. Some people use them on the “course” to increase the anabolic effect of anabolics. In theory, they can increase the utilization of protein and carbohydrates in the process of muscle growth.


Calculating the rate of Lytryronin is strictly individual and often does not depend on the individual factors of the athlete, but on the drug itself. This drug is unstable, its activity is greatly reduced over time. Therefore, all further figures regarding the course will be very approximate.

There are two approaches to taking this drug. The first is the constant use of T3 in order to stabilize the burning of fat masses and to go to the goal gradually, at a small pace, or to support oneself in the ideal form. In this case, a dosage of 12.5 mg is sufficient, although in rare cases 25 mg are used. The second way is coursework. Here, higher doses of the drug are used during a certain, sufficiently short period of time to minimize the harmful effects. In this case, the athlete takes no more than 75 mg daily, although usually less than 50 mg. The course lasts from eight to twelve weeks.

The consequences of taking an excessive dose of T3

A high dose of T3, usually starting at about 75 μg per day, but in some cases, with about 100 μg per day, can cause tachycardia (increased heart rate) and muscle weakness and can have a catabolic effect or at least reduce anabolism. Of course, high doses of anabolic steroids often mask the last effect.

Very high levels of T3 are dangerous to the heart.

Interaction of a high serum T3 level with IGF-1

High levels of T3 decrease the level of IGF-1, which can reduce the anabolic efficacy of GH, but does not alter the effectiveness of GH in fat burning.

Because of this effect, some researchers believe that T3 reduces the side effects of GH; in fact, T3 causes the same dose of GH to produce less IGF-1 in the body than usual. It would be more appropriate to simply reduce the dose of GH to a personally acceptable level.

The effect of a decrease in the effectiveness of GH is particularly pronounced when the dose of T3 exceeds 50 μg per day, and becomes almost invisible, if not absent at all, with, for example, 25 μg per day.


T3 is a very effective compound that promotes fat burning, but it gives serious side effects in case of an overdose. If you exercise sufficient caution, this compound is easily excreted from the body. Given the fact that T3 has limited stability, it is best to buy from high-quality pharmaceutical manufacturers, or buy generic drugs in third world countries or a relatively fresh, carefully tested powder. Liquid preparations can quickly lose activity and therefore are not in demand.
